LOCAL POWER SPOTLIGHT: JENNIFER BENT

Joyful, generous, colorful! These are a few ways that friends and loved ones describe Jennifer Bent.

A native of the Caribbean, Jennifer and her husband Colin moved to Tulsa from Jamaica in 1978 with their two young children. Their similar experiences as the children of ministers equipped them well to start anew and remain rooted in faith after leaving family, friends, and familiarity.
In 1980, Jennifer accepted a position as a telephone operator with Southwestern Bell, ultimately being named to management. She remained with the phone company until retiring after 27 years.

Jennifer and her family were dedicated members of Higher Dimensions Family Church, where she served as a greeter and her husband served as elders and celebrants. After joining All Souls Church, Jennifer served in various areas of the ministry, including as a Greeter & with the Feeding Ministry.

She supports her husband with his insurance business. She misses no opportunity to give to others, whether it is preparing a meal for those in need, surprising a friend with a pick-me-up gift, or simply sharing a smile and kind words of encouragement.

Jennifer has extended her generosity by donating to a Links outreach project, Melody House, at Montego Bay Community Home For Girls in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Jennifer’s notions of leadership are not related to titles or lofty positions. She feels that her greatest achievements in leadership have come through service, particularly the impact she has had as a wife, mother, and grandmother who prioritizes her family over all other obligations.
